3. Where do you find inspiration and/or what inspires you?

i draw a lot of inspiration from the color and texture in different fibers. the yarn itself usually does the driving, i just follow along. i also find a lot of inspiration from cultural adornments through out history. all around the world, people have had such amazing taste and talent in how they decorate themselves and i'd like to leave my little contribution to that.

"Where do you draw your inspirations for creating from?"

inspiration is about as transparent and hard to define as spirit itself. there's no real telling when and where it will strike, how it will hit you and what the result will be. inspiration can come from positive or negative experiences, it can come from sounds, moments, memories.. it can come from color, texture, smell, taste.. it can come from joy.. it can come from sorrow... it can come from love.. or anger.. dreams, ambitions and desires.

knitting for many (myself included) is a comfort, a colorful friend with lots of texture that steers you through good and bad times, all in the process of creating something beautiful and unique.

aside from daily life, what inspires me most is fiber, color, texture, culture, nature and the process itself.

so it's been a busy month. bees are buzzing, gardens are growing and feet are eager to get in the sand. i've finished some socks, a shawl, a hat and half of a sweater in between the heatwaves and adventures.

"Do you consider yourself only a fiber artist, or do you work in multi media application, and/or draw techniques from other fields to use in the one you're working in? "

i've been on a long path of creative exploration stemmed by an uncontrollable urge to express myself. am i just a fiber artist? by no means. i started writing when i was 13, prose, short stories and poems, and drawing images to go along.. then around 14 my mom gave me my first camera, which led me on a 13+ year journey of the still image. i've dallied in design, in video, in carving, in sculpture... but if i were to actually pick the 2 things i stick to the most, it's definitely photography and fiber crafting.

BEING YOU.

please don't pay attention to the pressure of being who you are. words come out differently when they're written down in ink. they come out in giggles when they are spoken. to love - be in love - one love all. to feel it moving through you. pulsing through you. it's the archetype she wrote about so many years ago. it's stopping, it's starting, it's pushing it a little bit further every chance that arrives. it's over exposure. it's learning to use the tools as instruments with out assistance of artificial motives, moments, memories. it's being you. really being you and giving it selflessly. sharing it. accepting that the bad really isn't so bad and there's always room for improvement. it's the lump in your throat when you speak harshly to someone, when you think negative thoughts that keep you from sleeping, that reveals the heart inside pumping striving to rise above this roof brain clutter, this nonsense, this bondage lovingly called confusion and the comfort left-brain finds in focusing on the problem_ not the solution. after all who are we? who are you? what drives you, motivates you, stimulates your growth as a person in love with life, humility and truth? silent no more. these unanswered questions will not be accepted any longer. the volcano is erupting. there's no way of stopping it now. smash your mirrors, it's time to come clean.

i seem to magnetize yarn.... all of this (and more) literally 'arrived' in my life in the past month with little effort on my own part other then just sincerely loving fiber. my enthusiasm must attract wool, silk and cotton like a sort of static cling. i'm currently in a knitters heaven, ready to transform every bit of this into something one of a kind.

may i add also, a heart felt THANK YOU to my wonderful friends. ♥

my first sweater

it was the one that kicked it over for me. i knew how to knit for almost a year before i actually started knitting. not knowing how to read a pattern or understand what gauge meant, i picked up the yarn i had and my favorite metal needles and went to work, when i finished and put it all together i had designed my first original piece and have knit daily since it's completion.
